Who’s Hot?

It’s been an exciting year. I have been managing many different aspects of my business and I have learned a lot about product development and about time management or rather the lack of “any time” and “any management”. (LOL) But through all of that, my greatest pleasure this year has come from all the supportive people I’ve had the opportunity to meet. Then there are those who have always been there with their kind words and supportive natures including my dear ‘little Cree’ friend who sent me a wonderful CD on how to create a one page business plan …to help me focus! It actually helped amazingly! So this year gave me more business opportunities and more favorite people!! Aho.

We were honoured to have Spirit Creations from APTN come out and film a segment on our clothing line “Indian Summer”. Their schedule was grueling but we managed to film a great photo shoot with them for the show.

Shauna, Shannon, Noelle, Shama Priya, de and Haven

There were many people that helped to make our shoot with Spirit Creations a great success! Namely, my assistant Haven Couture (For real that’s her name!) who came out and helped with everything behind the scenes including: pinning and ironing clothes to retouching hair and she even organized and made an incredible lunch! Some woman huh! And of course there was my favorite models “The Baker Twins” whom I adore and have much respect for and my dear friend Noelle and the very talented Shama Priya who is also a very busy beautiful young lady. Then there was Talysia Ayala who did the make up and brought her beautiful baby son to part of the shoot. He made all the girls smile! And once again my good friends at Clear Hair Studio who did the most incredible hair styling!! We were able to shoot in their studio on Burrard Street and it was a real pleasure. I also had one of the greatest camera guys around Bruce Shearer who never ceases to amaze me! One second he is filming …next he is a photographer.. hats off to him for a great job no matter which camera or project he’s working on. But most importantly, I would like to thank the people from Spirit Creations for taking the time to meet and film some of my favorite people… Lekeyton from Fort Langley (also known as Natch Antone) and elder Rose Point from Musqueum. These are some of the people that ground me and help me find direction and without them and my loving family, I know I could not do the things I do!! Aho!

L’Oreal Fashion Week in Toronto, Kanata/Canada

Indian Summer Fall Collection 2006

We had the pleasure of attending this event and presenting ‘Indian Summer’ to an international crowd of people and press. Holt Renfrew hosted the opening party where L’Oreal Fashion Week Executive Director Robin Kay emphasized the need for Canada to support our burgeoning fashion industry. Kay is also the President of the Fashion Design Council of Canada (FDCC). She graciously honoured her sponsors for helping her take this event to new heights. City TV owner Moses Znaimer told the crowd the time has come when we should honour each other and we can celebrate our differences and similarities through events like L'Oreal Fashion Week.

The Sheraton Hotel was definitely our ‘home away from home’.

Fashion Nation provided the models and designers with a ‘limo’ to the big event.

Designers: Tereza Babayan, Bill Helin, de Brillon and Ronald Everett

Fashion Nation coordinated and hosted the First Nations’ designers which included Ronald Everett and Bill Helin. Artifaax would like to thank Charmaine Logan and her crew and especially all those models who worked so diligently and hard. They did a wonderful job of presenting our clothing to a world wide audience. I would also like to give a special thank you to Dezirae and Spring Dawn for traveling and taking the time out from your busy lives to be with me at this show and for Rachelle who made us feel right at home in the busy city of Toronto, Kanata! And last but not least my adoring sister Benita for always being there and giving me your support.

What’s New?

Wow. Congratulations to Shauna and Shannon! The Baker Twins have just landed an on-going role in television. Rumor has it they are heading for Los Angeles this summer because they have a major role in a feature film. These girls certainly deserve the best. They are not only very beautiful and smart but to put it simply …very honourable. They are hard working and very respectful of their culture and people. We wish them much success and love because their success is ultimately ours! Aho
